Urth Caffe is lovingly restoring a historic building that was originally built in 1888 overlooking Orange’s iconic plaza for its new flagship restaurant. The construction at 100 W. Chapman Avenue began in 2015, and in addition to the typical restaurant buildout also includes reinforcing the masonry of the building to better withstand seismic activity. Urth Caffe serves organic heirloom coffee and delicious organic food with plenty of vegan and gluten-free options.
Urth Caffe’s investment in the property also uncovered an interesting piece of history, an old painted sign for the Hemphill & Morse real estate company that dates all the way back to the 1890’s. The sign is located on what was originally an exterior wall that became an interior wall when a previous owner added onto the building. Be sure to stop by and see the sign when Urth Caffe opens its doors this fall.
