Swine Flu Information

The City of Orange Fire Department wants to make sure that the latest information on Swine Flu is available to the public.

U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano declared a federal public health emergency on Sunday, 4-26-09.

History – California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger on Tuesday, 4-28-09, declared a "state of emergency" for the state over an outbreak of the swine flu.

Schwarzenegger's proclamation allows the state to deploy additional resources to the Department of Public Health and more quickly and easily purchase equipment and materials.

California Department of Public Health has issued interim mask and respirator guidance information for the general public on 4-30-09.

6-11-09 -- The Pandemic Threat Level was raised to 6 by the World Health Organization.

8-6-09 -- The Center for Disease Control (CDC) provides regular informational updates including health fact sheets, recommendations for people with special needs (including expectant mothers) and more.  Please check the CDC website, www.cdc.gov/h1n1flu, routinely for the most current health recommendations.


The recent "Swine Flu" epidemic has generated significant media coverage. The Orange City Fire Department wants the city’s residents, businesses and visitors to have access to up-to-date, accurate information from a reliable source.

The Centers for Disease Control have prepared immediate-access information for the public in the form of information sheets and "frequently asked questions" on their website. Please go to www.cdc.gov for more information.

The swine flu information is on the right of the CDC home page in a green box. On the "Information" webpage (one of the three links in the green box), there is especially helpful information in the light green boxes titled "General Information on Swine Flu" and "What You Can Do to Stay Healthy".
