Captain MacDonald is the staff captain assigned to the Fire Prevention Section as Deputy Fire Marshal. His primary responsibility is to supervise the six fire safety specialists and two hazardous materials specialists working in the Fire Prevention Section. He also represents the department as public information officer, and runs the fire department film desk.
Captain MacDonald is a 23-year veteren of the fire service. He holds an associate of arts degree in fire science from Santa Ana College, enhanced by additional numerous courses in political science and organizational leadership. Hired by the City of Orange in 1989, he has held the ranks of firefighter, firefighter/inspector, engineer, captain and captain/ deputy fire marshal. His two years as a fire inspector and seven years as deputy fire marshal fill out the eleven years he has worked in the Operations Division. Captain MacDonald serves as immediate past president/ judge advocate of the Cal Chiefs Prevention Section, Southern Division in his sixth year on the executive board. He has served on multiple local, state and national fire prevention committees including the International Code Council Joint Fire Service Review Committee. He brings his fire prevention expertise, developed through knowledge and experience gained at the state and national levels back to Orange to benefit his community.
During his career, Captain MacDonald has received the Professional of the Year Award from the Orange Management Chapter of the National Management Association. He has also been recognized by the Orange Masonic Center for his service to the community. He serves on the YMCA of Orange board of directors, and holds an AYSO advanced referee badge.
