What do Volunteers Do?
Select and deliver materials for each homebound patron based on their interest profile from the initial interview.
Volunteers are positive, cheerful, enthusiastic and patient people. Their contacts with homebound patrons provide vital links of friendship and service. The volunteer and homebound patron set up a delivery schedule that is convenient for both of them. Volunteers give their own time (about four hours a month is average) to serve the homebound. Because volunteers are asked to use their own vehicles in making deliveries a current California driver’s license and proof of insurance are required. Mileage expenses are tax deductible as a charitable donation, according to the federal tax code.
The Homebound Delivery Service Coordinator stays in touch with volunteers and homebound patrons to ensure the most effective operation of the program.
