Banana penguins are a fun and tasty treat to make this winter. Keep it simple with melted chocolate or sprinkle some sanding sugar over the chocolate to give them some extra sparkle.
1 firm banana
1/2 c. of chocolate chips
1/2 tbs. of coconut oil
3 orange candies
2 candy eyes
You will also need:
Parchment or wax paper
Freezer safe dish
Microwave safe dish
Help from a grown up
With a grown up’s help, cut 1/4 of the banana off. You can eat this piece or save it for later. Carefully skewer the larger piece of banana onto the skewer and set aside.
In a microwave-safe dish, combine the chocolate chips with the coconut oil. Microwave in 30 second intervals until melted. Check often as it can burn quickly. Stir with a spoon until smooth.
Carefully roll the top and sides of your banana into the melted chocolate. This can get very messy so be sure to protect your clothing and work surface. Place the chocolate covered banana onto a freezer-safe plate lined with parchment or wax paper.
Add the two candy eyes, an orange candy for the nose, and two orange candies for the feet. You can use leftover melted chocolate to help keep the feet in place.
Place your penguin banana in the freezer for 20 minutes, or until frozen. Remove the skewer and enjoy!
