The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is comprised of a variety of specialized officers and detectives with unique responsibilities, dedicated to serving the needs of the community. SIU is focused on supporting the community needs and problem solving initiatives.
All assignments under the SIU are considered unique and fall outside the realm of normal patrol duties. Officers and Detectives working within SIU receive specialized training and develop a high level of proficiency and expertise for their particular assignment.
The Gang Unit investigates gang-related criminal activities. Through a combination of high-visibility uniformed patrols and plainclothes surveillance, the Gang Unit meets the challenges of suppressing gang activity, and uses directed enforcement as a means of holding gang members accountable.
The Orange Police Department's Gang Unit is also part of the Tri-Agency Resource Gang Enforcement Team (TARGET) which collaborates with other members of the Orange County District Attorney's office and Orange County Probation Department.
