The Friendly Center
In addition to group activities such as picnics, club, religious holidays and school events, there were activities unique to the area. The Friendly Center, 436 N. Cypress, was built with funding by several local churches in 1924 to serve the Cypress Barrio. It offered church services, classes, and various community outreach programs. Jamaicas (street fairs) were held in front of the Friendly Center in the late 1940s. The Friendly Center is located at
436 N. Cypress St.
Orange, CA 92866
Weddings in the community were significant events, as one can sense from the lovely portraits that capture these important occasions.
