Orange Mayor Mark A. Murphy has proclaimed today, August 18, 2021, as “Annie Drews Day” in honor of our very own hometown hero, 2020 Tokyo Olympic Volleyball Team Gold Medalist and Orange resident Annie Drews.
At a ceremony yesterday afternoon honoring the 100th anniversary of the Orange Chamber of Commerce, the Mayor and City Council also unveiled a banner recognizing Annie Drews. The banner is now hanging proudly on E. Chapman Ave. in Old Towne, just east of the Plaza.
Annie Drews and the United States Volleyball Team dominated the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, sweeping the competition, and defeating Brazil to bring home the gold medal.
The City of Orange congratulates the team for their accomplishment, and is proud to say that Annie calls Orange “home.”
