Water Usage Restrictions in Orange

Due to the severe, ongoing drought, the State of California is requiring everyone in Orange to reduce their usage by 20%. To comply with the state mandate, the City has adopted the following restrictions for all water users:

• From April 1-October 31, landscaping can ONLY be watered on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays
• From November 1-March 31, landscape can ONLY be watered on Tuesdays and Saturdays
• Landscape watering is prohibited between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., and limited to 15 minutes per station
• Washing of pavement is prohibited
• Using potable water for irrigation of ornamental turf in street medians is prohibited
• Water leaks MUST be fixed within 48 hours
• Washing of vehicles except with a hand-held bucket or a hose equipped with a self-closing nozzle is prohibited
• In restaurants, drinking water is to be served only by request
• Hotels, motels, and other commercial lodging establishments must provide customers the option of not having towels and linens laundered daily

Our Statewide low water reserves and lack of rainfall pose a significant challenge for our community, one that is similar to the drought we faced in the early 2010s. We made it through that one by working together, conserving water, and being aware of our water usage. We can do it again.
