About

The City of Orange has implemented a Fats, Oils and Grease (FOG) Control Program to align with California’s Waste Discharge Requirements. The aim is to reduce FOG in sewers and prevent Sanitary Sewer Overflows (SSOs), which pose health risks. The city’s strategy includes:

  • Outreach and Engagement Efforts: Educating the community in the goal of eliminating SSOs by preventing the dumping of FOG and other items into the sanitary sewer.  Providing brochures, online resources and business inspections with the emphasis on Best Management Practices.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Adhering to the Statewide Waste Discharge Requirements Order WQ 2022-0103-DWQ.
  • Agency Coordination: Working with the Orange County Sanitation District, Orange County Public Works and local municipalities when mutual response is requested.
  • Reporting Mechanisms: Providing contact information for reporting SSOs or FOG-related concerns.

This comprehensive approach helps safeguard public health and the environment from the adverse effects of FOG accumulation and SSOs.
